Time to Iron out a casting rumour
Posted on Fri, 11-Feb-2005

Tom Cruise has 'ironed' out rumours that he'll be plopping Tony Stark's
trousers on soon, says Sci Fi Wire.

According to the "War of the Worlds" star, who has long been rumoured for
the lead role in an "Iron Man" pic, he has pulled himself out of the race.

"It's not happening. Not with me," Cruise says. "They ... came to me at a
certain point, and you know, when I do something, I want to do it right.
And, you know, if I commit to something, it has to be done in a way that I
know it's going to be something special. And that ... as it was lining up,
it just didn't feel to me like it was going to work."

Cruise continues, "I need to be able to make decisions and make the film as
great as it can be, and it just didn't go down that road that way," he said.
He added: "I've never just made a movie to make a movie. I've always made
them because I really was interested in the story. I wanted to make that
kind of picture and see what it would take, and it was an adventure for me.
For that, it just wasn't panning out. So far. You know, as of yet."

Well, he may be a scientologist k00k, but you gotta respect those last two

Either that or they (the producers) would not use a transparent helmet to
show off his toothy grin, which he seems to love to show off:).

And if he was not in it for the pay check, why did he make Far and Away???

Still can't listen to the "Oirish" accents without chuckling.

This is a fancy way of saying that he wanted to see if it would be another
Spider-Man/X-Men or if it would turn out to be another
Daredevil/Elektra/Punisher/Hulk.

From the information he was privvy to obtain as someone the production team
wanted in the lead role, it would seem that Cruise believes this will be
another Daredevil/Elektra/Punisher/Hulk, and didn't want to make the
mistakes Affleck and Garner made.

Makes sense to me. But doesn't bode well for the movie.

Actually, according to recent reports, Garner was contractually obligated to do Elektra. I don't
think she would've taken the role if it wasn't already in her contract from Daredevil.

Daredevil, wasn't bad. why are people knocking this flick. It was as true to

Bad casting. It's a shame to knock Affleck on this, since he already made it
pretty clear he's a fan and really cares about the character, but he didn't
seem to portray the "stiff" Matt Murdock I'm used to seeing in the comics.

Ben Affleck was the best actor in that movie. *That* is why it sucked so
bad. Duncan, Garner, Ferrel, and everyone else in that movie were terrible.
100% terrible and they should be embarrassed for turning in work like that.

I don't agree. There was nothing wrong with Bullseye or the Kingpin.

I did think it was a mistake to waste time on Daredevil's origin
story, a mistake to have Murdock be absolutely careless about his
secret identity while going around committing all those crimes and
maybe a mistake to have him be a bad guy.

The guy couldn't act blind, he was the worst choice for the movie.

And, not nitpicking, it's "Farrell", Ferrel makes it sound as if Will
Ferrell played Bullseye, which would have been an hilarious movie, albeit
not in a good way.

Farrel was the best thing about the movie. I felt he delivered a great performance, and was far
better than Williem Dafoe was in Spider-Man.

I thought Dafoe was awesome in that. I just don't agree with the post '96

I didn't think he was so bad as Murdock, really, but I hated the script,
hated the way the other characters were presented, and just didn't care
much for the movie at all.
